Cheney's Pellets Will Stay in Harry Whittington's Face

Harry Whittington will have a permanent reminder of being shot in the face, neck and chest by his "friend" Dick Cheney. He subsequently suffered a heart attack while in hospital. (Latest Update: I just read that his condition is much worse, with pellets lodged in his heart.)

"Mr. Whittington will probably have the pellets in his body for the rest of his life," said David Blanchard, chief of emergency care at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi.

Meantime, the white-washing is going on in earnest. The questions are about Cheney not having the correct stamp on his quail-shooting licence. The W.H. gives an incredibly inane response:

Facing a phalanx of upset press corps reporters on Monday, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said: "I think you can always look back at these issues and look at how to do a better job."

Cheney is an experienced hunter, and the incorrect stamp issue is lame, as is the excuse given by his office. Of course, the veep is above the law -- he is the law for chrissakes! The news was only made public on Sunday afternoon (a day late!) after the owner of the private ranch where the shooting incident happened said she was going to inform the local newspaper. She did, and the paper reported it. Otherwise, we would not have heard about it, guaranteed! (It's a wonder they did not manage to silence the ranch owner before she got to the paper.)

The whole incident is just another disgusting piece in the corrupt, amoral mosaic of an administration that holds itself supreme, untouchable, imperially hubristic while their cover-ups, transgressions, white-washes, lies, obfuscations and criminal actions are aided and abetted (and excused!) by a vapid, servile, neutered press.

America has become a very sick, moribund country.
