Valentine's Day: My Short Message

Valentine's Day has been attributed to either of two early Italian saints (who may have been the same person) - St. Valentine, a Roman priest martyred in c.269, and a bishop of Terni martyred at Rome. St. Valentine was regarded as a patron of lovers, a tradition which may be connected with the old belief that birds pair on the 14th of February, or with the pagan fertility festival of Lupercalia (15th of February).

Valentine cards, with drawings and verses, first appeared in the 18th century and were made by the sender. In the 19th century shop-made valentines were first produced and became increasingly elaborate, adorned with lace, real flowers, feathers, and moss; their dispatch was aided by the introduction of the 'penny post'.

To me, this day is about Peace and Love toward our fellow travellers on this planet. It is in this spirit that I would like to wish everyone a happy Valentine's Day.
