Qana Bombing: Video of the Aftermath

More than 54 civilians, at least 34 of them children, have been killed in an Israeli strike on the Lebanese town of Qana. Israel has defended the action saying it was targeting a Hezbollah missile site.

However, this latest carnage has sharply turned the tide of world opinion against Israel, prompting Olmert to agree to a 48-hour suspension of air strikes over south Lebanon to investigate the Qana killing. As well, the bombing in Qana has added urgency to the diplomacy surrounding the Middle East conflict, increasing the pressure on the United States to press for a ceasefire sooner rather than later.

The UN Secretary General Kofi Annan injected a severe new tone, with its own moral pressure, at an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Sunday.
