New Posts at "The Washington Note" on Iranian Nuclear Diplomacy and Michael Hayden's CIA Appointment (and the return of the previously Goss-Fired )

Steven Clemons sent these links to a couple of very interesting posts on US national security and foreign policy issues he put out today in the Washington Note:

Dear Colleagues:

I thought I’d send you the two links on US national security and foreign policy issues I put out today.

The first deals with the first letter from an Iranian President to a U.S. President in 27 years — and what the implications of this sort of creative diplomatic move might mean.

The second is my critique of many of the pundits on the choice of Michael Hayden to head the CIA. They say he crossed lines in the warrantless wiretap program, with which I agree. But these Republican and Democratic commentators also see him as a Rumsfeld flack who will help consolidate military control over the nation’s intelligence bureacracy — and that is wrong.

Hayden (who is bringing the Goss-fired, well-respected CIA super spy Steve Kappes in as CIA Deputy Director) is a great choice to knock back Donald Rumsfeld’s imperialism over the country’s intelligence capacity.

Hope you find these useful.
