Ontario Coalition Against Poverty Demonstration in Toronto (Rosedale) April 8

OCAP Raise the Rates Demonstration

Saturday, April 8th @ 6:30pm

Meet in the Park across from the Rosedale Subway Station

(on Yonge, North of Bloor)

Raise Welfare and Disability by 40%
Give us back the Special Diet Allowance

On April 8, we are marching into Rosedale to tell them we want our money back!

Their Government at Queen’s Park must make the payment.

A 40% increase in welfare and disability cheques now!

The McGuinty Government has not increased welfare rates by any serious amount but they have cut the Special Diet Allowance that enabled thousands of people to pay their rent and eat decently.

A 40% cut to wefare has been turned into massive tax breaks for the rich.

In ten years, the poor people who live in just one housing project (Regent Park) have had $120 million taken from them and given to one wealthy community: Rosedale.

Billions of dollars have been taken from Ontario’s poor and handed to those who already had too much.

OCAP is a direct-action anti-poverty organization based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We mount campaigns against regressive government policies as they affect poor and working people. In addition, we provide direct-action advocacy for individuals against eviction, termination of welfare benefits, and deportation. We believe in the power of people to organize themselves. We believe in the power of resistance.
