Amnesty USA: Take Action to Shield the Women of Darfur

AFRICA HUMAN RIGHTS ACTION NETWORK

TAKE ACTION: Shield the Women of Darfur

Much of the violence perpetrated in the Darfur conflict has resulted in grave human rights violations against women. These violations have specifically targeted women and girls, and include abductions and sexual slavery, rape, torture, and forced displacement. Girls as young as eight-years-old have been raped and used as sex slaves.

Without further funding to ensure operations past March 31, 2006, the African Union Mission in the Sudan (AMIS) peacekeeping force is in jeopardy. Urge your Representative to approve all funding requested to support AMIS and an international mission in Darfur.

Dr. White-Hammond currently serves as the National Chairperson of the Million Voices for Darfur campaign and has made multiple trips to war-torn southern Sudan since 2001 where she has been involved in obtaining the freedom of 10,000 women and children enslaved during the two-decade civil war.
