***Say No to the McGuinty Government's nuclear energy agenda***
April 26, 2006 marks the 20th anniversary of what the United Nations has called "the greatest environmental catastrophe in the history of humanity" - the Chernobyl catastrophe. Because of radioactive contamination from Chernobyl, over 300,000 people have been forced to permanently relocate, destroying local economies and communities. And today thousands are still being exposed to the radioactive fallout from Chernobyl.
Because of safety and environment concerns as well as its high cost and security problems, nuclear power began a world-wide decline after the Chernobyl catastrophe.
However, twenty-years later the McGuinty government is pushing ahead with a plan to spend $40 billion on new nuclear reactors as well as rebuilding old ones. If implemented, the McGuinty government's nuclear plans will block the development of a green energy future in Ontario.
Communities around the world are planning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and to say no to a nuclear future.
Please join for the commemoration of Chernobyl in Toronto.
