In U.S. Cities Thousands Demonstrate for Immigrant Rights
Thousands of immigrant demonstrators turned out in the streets of several major U.S. cities today, wanting their voices heard. They say that they are a vital part of the U.S. economy, providing necessary labour, and paying taxes on goods they buy. They simply want to be recognised as "Americans", treated with dignity and calling for the government to grant them status after a certain length of time in the country. It is estimated that there are approximately 11 million 'illegal' immigrants in the U.S. although there is no way to accurately know who is legal, who is not. Immigrants make up the fastest growing voting bloc. Some politicians realise this as they marched alongside the demonstrators.However, Washington lawmakers cannot seem to agree on what to do about these immigrants, and the Senate sidetracked the immigration deal, as you can read in the article linked below:
