Gary Markle: 'Plain Truth'

My friend and fellow peace activist, Gary Markle, read the article I posted yesterday from Truthout.org, of the prepared text of *Bill Moyers' remarks delivered on March 14th, about the heresy of the 'Religious Right', the history of its meteoric rise and hijacking of US political influence. It is compelling and indeed the truth.

After having read it, Gary wrote this poignant piece about his thoughts on religious fundamentalism:

PLAIN TRUTH

The plain truth is, God doesn’t have a religion and God doesn’t discriminate. Any religion that preaches they’re the only “True Religion”, and that they‘re ‘Special’, in God’s eyes, preaches false doctrine.

Those who stand up and claim to be “Born Again”, do so only to gain the acceptance and approval of Men. If the ‘Spirit’ is truly with you, it will be known only by, works of love and charity.

To foster a belief in, ‘Us’ and ‘Them’ is to divide Humanity. This is contrary to the teachings of Christ.

So I ask you, if we are to be disciples of Christ, do we set ourselves apart from ‘Others’ consider ourselves ‘Special’ or ‘Different’, or do we stand up for ‘All Of Humanity’ and recognize our ‘sameness’, our ‘Equality’?

And so it will be in the End, that those who have set themselves apart from their fellow man, will find that they have set themselves apart from, God.

The worth of a Soul will only be measured by how much It has loved. Nothing more, nothing less.
